Durrah at the waterfront

Durrah's love of belly dance began in her teens. She began classes in American cabaret style raqs sharqi and then began studying folk dance during college, branching out into Polynesian and Irish dance as well as regional dances from Europe, Africa, and Asia.

In 1997, Durrah discovered tribal style belly dance and fell in love with the regal, elegant, and earthy textures of the dance. Two years later she began studying American Tribal Style belly dance and has been focusing on ATS ever since.

Durrah has studied with many nationally-reknowned instructors, including Carolena Nericchio of Fat Chance Belly Dance, Megha Gavin of Devyani Dance Company, and Rachel Brice. She is always learning and takes every opportunity to attend workshops and classes.

Durrah currently dances with Nadira and Zuleika as one of Les Fleurs Ébènes, South Tidewater's newest tribal belly dance troupe.
